All at Westgate Chambers send our best wishes to Judge Anthony Niblett on his retirement.  Philip Meredith made a suitably humorous, yet moving, speech on behalf of all of the Bar at his valedictory on Friday afternoon, telling a packed courtroom in Hove  that the much-respected Judge always displayed ‘courtesy, a warm welcome and kindness ‘.

Richard Barton, Joint Head of Chambers, said, ‘Tony Niblett has been a very significant figure to all local lawyers for many decades, both as a barrister, and more recently on the Bench.  He devoted a great deal of invaluable time and effort to the Bar Mess, he helped many junior members of the profession with acts of kindness, and was always a compassionate and caring Judge.  He had the ability to empathise with the wide range of people who appeared before him, and epitomised all that is good about the Sussex legal world.  He will be sorely missed’.
