Background

Rebecca obtained her Law degree at University College London whilst also working as a solicitors clerk and working in her holidays in the legal department of the Daily Mirror! From there she studied at the Inns of Court School of Law and thereafter did her pupillage at 3 Temple Gardens and Francis Taylor Building. Rebecca obtained tenancy at 3 Temple Gardens and practised predominantly in London gaining experience in both Crime and Family law. Rebecca began to develop a solely Family law practise in approximately 2001. Rebecca moved to Brighton and thus moved to Westgate to develop a practise in Sussex in 2002.

Area of Practice

Rebecca regularly represents parents and children (either through their Guardian or separately) in all aspects of family applications (Care orders, Adoption, Special Guardianship, Contact, Residence, Inherent Jurisdiction and Secure Accommodation) in all levels of courts. Rebecca has significant experience in dealing with parents who are particularly vulnerable either through mental health issues, domestic violence or through substance abuse. Rebecca has represented a number of young people where Secure Accommodation has been applied for and vulnerable people through the Official Solicitor.

Rebecca has conducted a number of fact finding hearings on issues such as: non accidental injury on children, sexual abuse of children and Mother (rape) and serious domestic violence.

Rebecca is also one of the first barristers in Sussex to accept instructions from Sussex Police for Domestic Violence Protection Orders.

It has often been commented that Rebecca has the sort of manner where people are immediately at at ease and feel able to open up to her almost instantly.

Descriptions of her work include:

‘…so quick to grasp the real issues in my case…’ (Father in Contact application)

‘Rebecca offers personal yet highly professional client care…’ (solicitor)

‘I felt supported through every step of the way.’ (Mother in Care proceedings)

‘Rebecca Davies is a skilled and experienced Counsel and an effective advocate for children in care proceedings…’ ( Children’s Guardian)

Rebecca also organises seminars and lectures for Chambers and local family law solicitors, Guardians and social workers.
