Notable Cases

  • R-v-Glover (2009) – A widely reported prosecution of a former playboy model at Lewes Crown Court.
  • R-v-Ireson & others (2010-2011) – One of the largest building fraud conspiracies to be prosecuted. Leading defence junior counsel in a four month VHCC case at Bristol Crown Court, Mr Ireson was acquitted, three other defendants all convicted.

Additional Information

Andrew’s LLM in Environmental law included a dissertation on local regulatory framework to address climate change as well Environmental Law and Policy, European Environmental Law and International Environmental Law. From 2005 – 2008, he was a member of the London Sustainable Development Commission advising the Mayor and Greater London Authority.

Andrew is a local councillor in Merton. He is currently a cabinet Member with responsibility for planning policy, regeneration, asset management, street management and environmental sustainability. From 2001 – 2006 he was Leader of the Council and led improvements in corporate governance, public investment and service quality that were widely praised. Andrew also led the introduction of the ‘Merton Rule’, a planning requirement for renewable energy in new developments, which has been followed across the county and supported by the Government. Currently, Andrew recently chaired a local partnership review into the so called ‘honour killing’ of Banaz Mahmod.

Andrew is a peer member of the Improvement and Development Agency and has been a part of a number of peer reviews of local council as well as Audit Commission teams assessing local government performance. He mentors councillors from other councils. He has also chaired the Merton Local Strategic Partnership and the Leaders’ Committee of the South London Partnership, been a member of the Commission investigating London’s governance.

Andrew was a Member of the Bar Council 1991 – 1993 serving on the Professional Conduct Committee and the Bar Committee.
