Jonathan is a strong and talented advocate with broad experience at all levels of criminal law. He has developed a wide-ranging defence practice including serious sexual offences, serious offences of violence and multi-handed trials. He is approachable, practical and is often praised by instructing solicitors for his ability to deal with complex and difficult cases.
Jonathan is also regularly instructed in all types of driving matters. His practical experience and depth of knowledge in this area is supported by his civil work.
Jonathan is a Grade 3 prosecutor appearing in Crown Courts all over London and the South East, including regularly being instructed by the South East Complex Crimes Unit. He has experience in prosecuting sensitive and complicated cases, including recently being instructed in a multi-handed conspiracy to produce and supply drugs and in the Balcombe Fracking protester trials. In addition, Jonathan has a detailed knowledge of the principles and practice relating to Disclosure having been instructed as a Disclosure Junior in a range of high profile cases.
In other areas of crime, Jonathan has experience of proceeds of crime applications including restraint, forfeiture and confiscation for both the prosecution and the defence. He also conducts numerous cases for other prosecuting agencies including the Probation Service, DWP and Customs & Excise and Sussex Police.
Jonathan also has a general civil practice specialising in Credit Hire and Personal Injury claims. His experience as a criminal advocate often gives him the edge in court and he combines this with the ability to provide clear and practical written advice for both professional and lay clients. He is also a strong negotiator who always fights hard for the interests of clients.
In Credit Hire, Jonathan has been a panel advocate for Accident Exchange work for the last 7 years and receives regular instructions on behalf of Claimants at all levels up to and including multi track cases. Many of these cases also involve trials on the issue of liability.
In PI, he has been briefed on a wide range of cases. His strong analytical skills allow him to get to the heart of the case quickly and he regularly advises on all aspects of quantum.
Jonathan has also Lectured to the Probation Service on changes to sentencing legislation and is a trainer for the police on their Drug Expert Witness course. He is also a member of the Accident Exchange Panel of Approved Advocates
