Farooq specialises in matters affecting children, mainly care proceedings. In public law children work, he is instructed by local authorities, parents and Children’s Guardians in a wide range of cases involving physical, emotional and sexual abuse allegations, and in respect of contact and adoption issues. He is Direct Access qualified, which means that it may not be necessary to go through a solicitor to instruct him.
Appointed as a Recorder (part-time Judge in the Crown Court and Family Court) in 2000, Farooq is authorised to sit on civil cases, care proceedings and private family matters. He is also qualified to hear serious criminal cases in the Crown Court, including sexual offences and Appeals.
Farooq is also a qualified arbitrator and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Farooq is very approachable and extremely good with clients. Solicitors have described him in the following way.
“A charming man whose calm, focus and good manners are both pleasing and valuable in situations where other advocates sometimes lose their cool or get drawn into unnecessary disputes. He is a man who does not waste his words and who truly appreciates the concepts of client autonomy and giving properly considered legal advice. His experience in care proceedings, thorough preparation and attention to detail makes him a technically formidable opponent. Mr Ahmed would be my first choice in any complex or technical proceedings and I would recommend him to anyone with gusto.”Other solicitors refer to Farooq’s “meticulous preparation” and describe him as being “calm, measured and ultimately deadly”
